Spirituality

St Mary's is a Roman Catholic School established in the year 2010. The school enrols both Catholic Students and non-Catholic students. Actually the greater majority of students and staff is non-Catholic. This however does not mean that the Catholic spirituality can be watered down. Instead it is maintained and the catholic ethos is greatly respected under the guidance of the Responsible Authority represented by the parish Priests.

The school does so by observing Catholic traditions like : Praying the Angelus, the Rosary, Reading Daily readings according to the Liturgical Guide, and above all, celebrating the Holy Eucharist.

Holy Mass
​
​Every Thursday morning the school gathers in celebrating the Holy Eucharist. This celebration is the source of strength for the school and an obligation for everyone to attend. Failing to do so is a serious offence to the Responsible Authority, therefore everyone gathers in worship through song and dance. Here deep reflections are given through the Homily of the School Chaplain.
Holy Rosary

Every assembly during the months of May and October (Rosary months) the students take turns to lead the Rosary. During this prayer, the school has the chance to dedicate their prayers for the special intention and especially for the form fours. Therefore, respect and reverence of the prayer is obligatory for the whole of St Mary's family teaching and no-teaching staff as well as the students.

Lent

Lent is a 40 day period before Easter. This period is dedicated to prayer, alms-giving and fasting. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of this prayerful season. Receiving ashes is a reminder of how "we are dust and to dust we shall return" and the call to repentance.

 

On ash Wednesday all students and staff members (Catholic and non-Catholic) receive ashes(willingly)  and start the journey of fasting. Personal sacrifices during lent are expressed through contributions in cash or kind. To boost the Lenten Campaign, the school organises some fundraising activities and the proceeds go towards lent.

Days of Recollection

As a school We keep days of recollection as a way of refreshing and revitalizing our prayer life. During this time, everyone is offered an opportunity to deepen their relationship with God and listen to his call. On such days we leave behind usual distractions and allow God to work in each one of us through silent prayer and guidance to the retreat master. During these days we pay attention to the presence of God and this interior solitude and strive to convert and become better people. Recollection lies at the core of discipline in our school and highly contributes to a good pass rate for it is during this time that we surrender all our efforts to God.

Pour forth we beseech you oh  Lord into our hearts, that we to whom the incarnation of Christ your Son, who was made by the message of the Angel, we may be brought by his passion and cross, to the glory of his resurrection. Through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
